~

As the sun rises over the city

We sit

(some distance between us)

Breathless

From climbing the hill

We take it all in

As the sky brightens

Cold, fresh air

Dew drops on the grass

Surrounding us

The tree, a few feet away, so still

Dark, forbidden

We both breath it in

Watching people leave their houses

To go to work

Just another day

As the afternoon heat rises

We sit under the tree

Now warm and inviting

Sounds can be heard all around

Sounds of dogs barking

Children playing

Rings in our ears

But as you put your head on my shoulder
All sounds turn mute.
